Perkins and Pickard names

William PERKINS(mid-1700s)

Relationship to me: 5 Gts.Grandfather
Born: Mid-1700s
Bapt: Possibly 26 April 1747 at Barston, Nr Coventry.
Parents: Possibly Abraham and Jane Perkins
Marriage: He probably married Ann HUDSON at Allesley on 6 Nov 1774. *** (see below)
Death:
Occupation:
Children: 1. Ann 1775 ... Berkswell
  2. Jane 1777 .. Berkswell
  3. Lucy 1780 ... Berkswell. Lucy married William PICKARD at St Michael's, Coventry on 30 Apr 1799.
  4. William 1784 ... Berkswell . William died 7 weeks after he was baptised.
Query: It is probable that Ann also had a daughter Elizabeth Johnson Perkins who was baptised on 21 May 1775 at Allesley.
Death of Wife:
General: There were several PERKINS families in Berkswell at that time. Berkswell and Barston are adjoining, and Allesley is quite close. There were 4 possibilities for William's marriage, 3 being in the nearby City of Coventry (6 miles from Berkswell) and 1 being in the adjacent Parish of Allesley). As the baptisms of William's children were all at Berkswell I think the Allesley marriage is most likely.

In 1841 James was in Coventry Gaol (reason not known) and Mary was a coal dealer at Well Street in central Coventry with the children. By 1851 James was back with the family, now in Cook Street, Coventry and described as a Brewer.
It is believed he died about 1858.

* The 2nd christian name of Reading is interesting. So far no reason for this has been found although there was a Reading family living very close to Dunchurch at the time
