. After their marriage John
and Ann lived at New Town and Roadway in Bedworth for about 15 years where John
was a Coal Miner. Then they decided to emigrate to the USA. Ann arrived in New
York on board a ship called The Chancellor on June 17, 1863. John is not listed
on the ship's manifest so he must have come at another time. Ann was listed as
a servant on the manifest, and her children were with her. The family settled
in central Illinois, which is in the central US. John was a coalminer and they
lived in Litchfield, Illinois. Ann died on April 1, 1898, and John died on
October 5, 1899. |
|
|
Note ! |
The Parish Registers show
Ann's parents to be Isaac Ison, a tailor, and Catherine. However several
experienced researchers are of opinion like myself that a bizarre mistake was
made at her baptism. We are sure that her parents were Charles ISON (who
was a tailor) and Catherine (nee HOPKINS) who had married in 1823. We have been
unable to find any trace of an Isaac other than a 12 year old relative living
20 miles away. This family did seem to have some strange conceptions but we
doubt THAT one ! Although Charles died in 1837 Catherine remarried and Ann ISON
is shown living with her re-married mother on the 1841 Census. |

Henry's brother Charles was living. Unfortunately it is believed there was
another Henry and Jane Ison in the Atherstone area who could possibly be the
parents. Those children were: Thomas: Chr 13 Jul 1806; Ann: 1807 ; John: Chr 7

Mary came from the Bedworth
ISONs, and her ancestors can be traced right back to about 1600 in Mancetter
near Atherstone. Her early years were spent in the centre of Bedworth and she
appears on the 1861 Census in Workhouse Yard aged 5 with her parents and
siblings. After her marriage the couple moved to live in Coventry near
Abraham's parents and in 1880 were at Union Street with their young
family. During the next 4 years they lived at various addresses in central
Coventry, including Court 1 Spon Street and Court 5 Chauntry
Place. In 1886 they were living in Little Park Street,
where they stayed until 1900. Then they moved round the corner to 59
St.John's Street where Abraham died in 1914. Mary continued to
live there until she died in 1933. |
