In 1841 James was in Coventry Gaol (reason not known) and Mary was a coal dealer at Well Street in central Coventry with the children. By 1851 James was back with the family, now in Cook Street, Coventry and described as a Brewer. It is believed he died about 1858.

  5. John 1817 ..Chr. 15 Aug 1817 Bloxham & Milton Presbyterian Chapel .
Death of Husband: Robert died in 1819 and was buried at Bloxham
General: I am not absolutely certain about Elizabeth's birth as there was another possible baptism. In view of the place of her marriage and stated age at death I think she was the Elizabeth Walker born and christened at Steeple Aston in 1786. However there was also an Elizabeth Walker christened in Banbury in 1788. Banbury being nearer to Bloxham where her husband was from. So there is always the slight possibility that it could be this Elizabeth and the couple went to Steeple Aston.

  8. Annie CAKEBREAD 1889 ...Coventry...Married Thomas England at Coventry, Jun QTR 1911.
  9. Thomas ALEXANDER 1892... Sheffield ( see General notes below)
Death of Husband: Caleb died in 1909 in Coventry but by that time Eliza had been living with another man for many years.
General: Eliza's early life is obscure. In the 1851 Census she was at Hill Street, and in 1861 she was in nearby Spon Street, Coventry with her parents . After her marriage to Caleb the couple were in Hill Street btween 1871and 1877. By 1881 they had moved out of the city about 1 mile to Radford (Common), where they stayed until about 1890. Then Eliza apparently ran off to the north of England with her lover, a builder's labourer, who was said to be working on a nearby Public House. She took 4 year old Sarah Jane with her but left the baby Annie and other children with husband Caleb. It seems she settled in Sheffield with her new partner, Thomas Alexander. In 1892 Eliza gave birth to a son also named Thomas Alexander. It was difficult to find her in the 1901 Census as she was recorded as Elizabeth Nicholls living with partner Thomas in Sheffield. Her daughter Sarah, aged 15, was found living and working as Domestic Servant at the house of a Clergyman and family in Sheffield. Eliza must have kept in touch with the family she left behind in Coventry because in 1909, very soon after the death of her husband Caleb, she remarried in Sheffield to Thomas Alexander, the man she had been living with. Nothing more can be found so far about Eliza. It is known that her daughter Sarah returned to Coventry in her late teens and married and settled down there.
